First Light Student Application

First Light Application

First Light Saturday Science School invites middle school students to apply for the 2022 Winter Term! Please complete the form below and attach a signed copy of the CASE Release Form to apply.

This program is open to fully vaccinated students, 12 years or older who attend public or public charter schools in the District of Columbia.

During the Winter Term, students will focus on the question “What other planets are like Earth?” Students will compare exoplanets to planets in our solar system, focusing on specific exoplanet systems. They will also learn how to detect planets using the transit method and they’ll revisit spectroscopy, learn about signs of life/bio-markers on other planets, complete term-long exoplanet research projects, and demystify sci-fi aliens: are species viable on the planets they were assigned to?

Sessions are held at Carnegie’s Broad Branch Road campus (5251 Broad Branch Road, NW, Washington, DC 20015, in the Greenewalt Building)  on the following Saturdays from 1 pm – 4 pm.
