CASE Teacher Professional Development

Young children are as curious as scientists yet teachers often don't have the resources, school infrastructure or pedagogical content knowledge to continue to nurture scientific exploration by kids. 

The CASE First Light program, initially for elementary grade students, provided the basis for the CASE Elementary Summer Institute, which has now been operating since 1994.

The CASE Elementary Summer Institute works closely with DCPS to provide teacher professional development using the same materials adopted by DCPS.

The Elementary Summer Institute has developed a cadre of CASE Mentor Teachers who teach hands-on and science integrated with language arts and math in their own classrooms.

CASE Mentor Teachers now work with colleagues each summer to further spread the CASE approach of
doing science to learn science. Here we are celebrating after an intense weekend planning for the 2010summer institute!
