Recommendations
e-mail identity - Be professional and use a neutral e-mail address for any interactions with potential employers and/or colleagues. Set up a google account with your name - or - initials and a number as your moniker.
Attachments - Name every attachment you send to a potential employer with your FirstInitialLastName-Resume/Letter, etc., e.g., thorn-resume.doc, thorn-letter.doc . Use Microsoft Word and SaveAs filename.doc (not .docx) since there are still school personnel who do not have access to the new version of Office.
Resume - Keep it simple. Use common fonts, such as Arial or Times New Roman. Keep a 1-inch margin all around. DO NOT include your SSN. Use a header that includes: your name and MathforAmerica Fellow. Do not include previous work-study or restaurant employment unless these jobs had a specific connection with teaching students.
Cover Letter - Keep to 3 paragraphs: Position to which you are applying; Your passion for teaching and skills you will bring to the classroom; Your hope for the outcome of the interview.
USE SPELL CHECK and GRAMMAR CHECK.
